Environment

The Group aims to achieve good environmental practice and to minimise adverse environmental impacts. Due to the nature of Mecom’s business, the primary focus is on the reduction of environmental impact in the production and printing of newspapers.  The Group identified the principal areas relevant to our environmental footprint as sustainable sourcing with particular focus on paper, energy consumption and waste management.

Trucost Assurance Statement

In Trucost’s opinion, Mecom Group plc has identified its material environmental impacts in the financial year 2009 and reported on these fully in accordance with current UK Government Guidelines for environmental reporting.

Trucost collected environmental impact data from Mecom’s printing plants and the majority of office sites via its secure online data collection portal. The data was standardised to enable meaningful comparison across the Group’s operating sites and identification of inaccuracies.
